The treaty of Waitangi
The treaty of waitangi was was signed on the waitangi in the bay of islands on February the 6 1840.
It was signed by representatives of maori tribal groups and the british leaders representing the british crown.
Waitangi day has been officially celebrated since 1940.
There were two different versions of the Te tiriti o waitangi.
Tonga means treasure
Sovereignty means power
Iwi means tribe
