Christchurch earthquake

Kia ora bloggers today post is about the Christchurch earthquake.

Q1: How have the Christchurch earthquakes affected the city?

The Canterbury earthquakes caused a significant change to the natural environment, including liquefaction, lateral spread near waterways, land level changes, and numerous rockfalls and landslides. Air and water quality were also impacted, with water-based recreational activities halted until November 2011.

Q2: What positives have come out of the Earthquakes:

Earthquakes are very useful to humans because they provide a picture of what's going on underground. This can make oil and gas extraction more efficient and allows scientists to monitor the progress of water during geothermal energy extraction.

Q3: What was the number of people that died during the Christchurch earthquakes:

The earthquake caused widespread damage across Christchurch, killing 185 people in the nation's fifth-deadliest disaster.

Hurumanu 1 Work week 4

 Hurumanu 1 Work week 4

Kia ora bloggers this post today is about My work in hurumanu 1/ Reading and social studies. We have to read this text that has multiple texts in the one I am going to be reading is Parihaka. This work is based on protests.

Part of my work is to complete three activities from the bingo taskboard.

Q1. What is the main idea from the text: The Main Idea from this text is where the Maori get their land taken off them by the new Europeans and even though they get shot and some die the don't fight back with violence the peacefully protest some would sit in front of there house or village and not move even when being threatened. Some times when the Europeans came to their village the kids would greet them with food and they would get killed but still, The Maori would not fight back.

Q2. Interesting facts:  Parihaka was a Māori settlement in Taranaki around the 1860s when New Zealand was a British colony, and land was being divided up and given to European settlers. Māori leaders Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kākahi encouraged the people of Parihaka to defend their land by peaceful methods.

Q3. What I learned: I learned that during the Parihaka protests that they did not use any violence towards the Europeans treated them really badly and killed most of their people. They showed how we can peacefully protest even though the other side uses violence.

As part of this work, I have to choose one of the protests I agree with. From what protests I have read I agree with the Parihaka with their peaceful protest and how they tried to save their land without using violence. I also agree with the woman protesting for their voting rights as they should have a right on who is the big boss of New Zealand.

Life on Mars/Science

Kia ora People today's post is about life on Mars. For this task, we had to read a book and answer the questions on the slide...

When can a mission to Mars happen?: Every 26 months people can go to or from mars because of that's when the two planest orbit near each other closer.  The initial concept included an orbiter and small robotic lander in 2018, followed by a rover in 2020, and the base components in 2024. The first crew of four astronauts was to land on Mars in 2025. Then, every two years, a new crew of four would arrive.

What are the two geological features of mars?: Like Earth and Venus, Mars has mountains, valleys, and volcanoes, but the red planets are by far the biggest and most dramatic. Olympus Mons, the solar system's largest volcano, towers some 16 miles above the Martian surface, making it three times taller than Everest.

What is one possible solution from the story about oxygen on mars?: Nasa has a machine that can split carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide/ Air. They are sending this to mars in 2020/ this year.

If it doesn't rain on mars where does the water come from?: There is ice stored under the ground on mars that can be filtered and drunk.

How do people get food on Mars?: When the astronauts land on Mars, there will be storable food from Earth waiting for them to use. ... CO2 for the plants is available from the Mars atmosphere and water is available through recycling and the soil on Mars. Nutrients for the plants could come from recycling human waste or could be imported from Earth.

Hope you learned lots from these questions

Should Cannabis be legalised?

Kia ora bloggers this post is about weather or not Cannabis should be legilised. For this post I will be giving my oponion on weather it should or not. I will also be putting what the affects are when you smoke it. My oponion is that it should not be lagalised because it leads to harder drugs and it creates lots of probelms in the comunity. It will cause lots of crashes it would be like when people are drunk and cuase lots of car crashs.

Here is some information that I found on the internet:

Marijuana, weed, pot, dope, grass. They’re different names for the same drug that comes from the cannabis plant. You can smoke it, vape it, drink it, or eat it. Most folks use marijuana for pleasure and recreation. But a growing number of doctors prescribe it for specific medical conditions and symptoms.

Marijuana has mind-altering compounds that affect both your brain and body. It can be addictive, and it may be harmful to some people’s health. Here’s what can happen when you use marijuana:

You Can Get “High”

It’s why most people try pot. The main psychoactive ingredient, THC, stimulates the part of your brain that responds to pleasure, like food and sex. That unleashes a chemical called dopamine, which gives you a euphoric, relaxed feeling.

If you vape or smoke weed, the THC could get into your bloodstream quickly enough for you to get your high in seconds or minutes. The THC level usually peaks in about 30 minutes, and its effects may wear off in 1-3 hours. If you drink or eat pot, it make take many hours for you to fully sober up. You may not always know how potent your recreational marijuana might be. That also goes for most medical Marijuna.

It May Affect Your Mental Health

Not everyone’s experience with marijuana is pleasant. It often can leave you anxious, afraid, or panicked. Using pot may raise your chances for clinical depression or worsen the symptoms of any mental disorders you already have. Scientists aren’t yet sure exactly why. In high doses, it can make you paranoid or lose touch with reality so you hear or see things that aren’t there.

Your Thinking May Get Distorted

Marijuana can cloud your senses and judgment. The effects can differ depending on things like how potent your pot was, how you took it, and much marijuana you’ve used in the past. It might:

  • Heighten your senses (colors might seem brighter and sounds might seem louder)
  • Distort your sense of time
  • Hurt your motor skills and make driving more dangerous
  • Lower your inhibitions so you may have risky sex or take other chances

Hope you learned lots.
Bye

Matariki.

Kia ora bloggers today's post is about Matariki. As it is coming we are doing work around it for Maori class. This post is going to teach you about Matariki here is what it is...

Matariki is all about celebration and spending time with family. ... Matariki was also important for agriculture. The coming of Matariki symbolized the harvest festival where the Maori feasted on the crops they had prepared. Matariki is important because it also is the time to restart the Maori calendar.

Health

Kia ora bloggers today's post is about nutrition. So when you but the food it has a list of things in it, for example, butter chicken. Here are the ingredients so here they are
Energy
Protein
Fat
Saturated
Carbohydrate
Sugars
Sodium

As you can see the first thing is energy so that is the most amount of an ingredient in the product. Next thing we are going to look at the health rating. Most products you buy have a health rating on the product, for example, the butter chicken has a 3 health star rating out of 5 that is in between so that is good. But if the health star rating is a one then you better shore make you don't eat a lot of that.

So what is the message eat healthy, not unhealthy.

Making biltong beef jerky.

Kia ora bloggers today post is about making biltong beef jerky. So today we made our biltong beef jerky, yay.  Making biltong beef jerky was a great experience for science. First, the teacher cut the meat #The wonderful Miss Allan after she finished cutting them we got a piece of meat and put the salt and sugar on both sides. Once we finished we hang it up and put our name on it. Now we have to wait three days for it to dry out then we can try it. Our aim was to preserve meat using salt.

Here are the institutions if you want to make It your self.

Slice the meat into 1 cm thick slices about an inch wide. Place salt on one side of the meat then turn over and do the same. Put at least a pinch of salt on the meat on both sides to make sure it is not too salty. Hang it up in the sun so it can dry. After three days it should be ready.

Sugar is optional

Here is a photo of the biltong beef jerky.
